Clone Window

Get Clone Window
Version 0.2.9

Clones the current tab's address and history into a new window when the New Window command is used (and optionally into a new tab when the New Tab command is used).

Note: If you're looking for on demand tab duplication then the Duplicate Tab add-on might be more suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I configure Clone Window to clone tabs?

Go to Tools->Add-ons->Extensions->Clone Window->Options, then set the New Tab command to Clone Tab.

Alternatives to this add-on, that bring some of the functionally back to Firefox 45 @ as 02/04/2016. See Mozilla Add-ons page for Firefox

Duplicate this tab
Middle click now closes tabs rather than duplicate them (no add-ons or userChrome file).
Ctrl+click just puts (*) on left side of tab.

Clone it
Does exactly what it says on the tin, no history taken over

Clone window does work if you disable xpinstall.signatures.required from about:config
How long firefox takes notice of this setting I do not know...

I just discovered that very similar functionality is built in to Firefox with no extensions needed with mouse actions (not keyboard):

"This feature is already available by holding down CTRL key | Command + dragging the tab to left or right." via (https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/clone-it/?src=ss).

So, to duplicate a tab with full history, just CTRL+drag it to the left or right to the tab position where you want the new tab. For a new window, CTRL+drag it anywhere other than the row of tabs.

Not quite as handy as keyboard shortcuts, but this works for me!

I have updated to Firefox 46. Clone Window disappeared spontaneously, and it will not reinstall, owing to (I presume) lack of a signature. Duplicate Tab does not work either for the same reason. Clone-it has only half-baked functionality with no history, and you must right click. To me it is almost useless.

Setting xpinstall.signatures.required to False in about:config used to work, but it does not work for me any longer. Clever Mozilla.

So now I can use CTRL-drag on a tab, as recommended by Chris below. It works, but is not as handy. I hate this. I loved Clone Window. How about it Pike?

Here is how I will stop using firefox: incapacity to whitelist the extension I want
